Tallow & Thyme
A small-batch soap and candle maker at farmers markets across southern Indiana.
What I did
- Static site rebuild
- Market schedule and stockist map
- Simple Shopify checkout
A one-page brief: the site takes seven seconds to load on the phone signal at the market, and customers give up before the stockist list appears.
The fix was not glamorous
The previous site was a page builder carrying eleven plugins, four font families, and a 4 MB hero video. We rebuilt it as a static site with system-adjacent typography, compressed imagery, and no client-side JavaScript on the pages that matter.
What we built
The market schedule is the homepage, because that is what people actually come for. It reads from a single markdown file that the owner edits on her phone, and the next three markets are visible before anything else loads.
Commerce is a light Shopify checkout for the twelve products that sell online. Not a store — a checkout. The distinction kept the build inside a very small budget.
What changed
Largest contentful paint went from 6.8 seconds to 1.1. Not a design award, just a business that stopped losing customers in a field with two bars of signal.
